Happy Worldbuildingex! I’m excited to be signing up for the first time.
I love worldbuilding, and my requested canons are all set in worlds that I’d love to see explored further. If I have more prompts for a given canon or tag, it just means I had more ideas, not that I want it more. Everything in here is something I’m fascinated by! And I hope you feel like you can explore a tag I’ve requested in a way I didn’t think to prompt.
I’ve requested fic for these fandoms, but I wanted to note that I’m also totally happy with gifts that lean more towards the in-universe-meta side of things, as long as they’re still telling some sort of story. I love outsider POV, epistolary works, found document fic, stories presented as transcripts or online message boards or chatrooms or tweets, stories or creepypastas or legends from in-canon, stories in the form of journalism about the characters, and more.

Hidden Legacy
Catalina, Arabella, Runa
Hidden Legacy! I love this canon, and I’d love a chance to see more of any of these three and explore their world. I’ve read the canon through Sapphire Flames, as well as the first chapter of Emerald Fire that was released with the new Innkeeper novella, and I keep up with the snippets posted on the blog, so no worries on spoilers here. :D (That being said: if you’re trying to stay unspoiled for Emerald Fire, no worries — there’s no spoilers in the prompts below.)
Gen is great here. Outsider POV on any of the requested characters: also great. If you want to include a love interest for Catalina and/or Arabella, Catalina/Alessando is fine and I’d be good with Arabella/Augustine as long as Arabella’s a bit older when they get together, like maybe early-mid 20s? I’d also be interested in seeing more of Catalina and Runa together, whether it’s romantic or just as good friends. We didn’t see much of Runa and Bern interacting in the new book, but I could be into it if the two of them had some time to develop something. Or OC love interests for any of these characters would also be fine. For background ships, Nevada/Rogan and Penelope/Benjiro are also fine.
Herald
Five Times Grandma Frida spotted one of her grandkids on Herald.
I know “characters responding to fanfic” has been done a zillion times, but I don’t care — I’m a sucker for it. How do our characters react to fic or art about themselves? (Bonus points if Grandma Frida ends up being the author of the fic!) Is learning how to cope with Herald part of what Catalina learns about being a Prime from Arrosa, or is that the area where Catalina had to figure things out herself?
People on Herald start shipping Catalina, Arabella, or Runa with [OC]. She decides she wants to find out why.
Urban Legends
What do urban legends or creepypasta look like in this universe? It could be really fun to see in-universe meta/fic written in the form of a podcast or blog post or creepypasta about some event that ends up actually being due to Arabella, Catalina, or Runa’s powers.
At school, some kids ask Arabella to look into a local legend/ghost story/whatever with them. She didn’t realize what they were getting themselves into.
Or I’d love to see the Baylors’ new compound having its own legends attached! What kinds of places do you get shown when you’re looking for a bargain on a House compound in Houston? Do they find a great deal on something — maybe a suspiciously great deal — because there are stories that it’s haunted, or has a dark past, or has some upsetting history attached? How do they clear things out to make it their own?
Are there any urban legends/stories about powers that are too terrible to exist? Does Catalina ever have to investigate stories like that in her role working for Linus?
Hive Mind
Amber, Lucas, Nicole, Gregas, Buzz, Any or No Character, Original Character(s)
I love this series. :D I’m always here for special, special telepaths and the people who love and serve them, so this series was an easy hit right on the sweet spot for my id… and then the author threw in some really interesting worldbuilding, too.
Anything focusing on exploring the Hive through my requested characters, original characters, or other canon characters I haven’t requested would be great! Ship-wise, I do like Amber/Lucas and would prefer not to see them break up after the point where they get together in canon. However, I’m delighted to get something focusing on just one of them, and don’t expect to see both of them in a fic.
I’ve read Borderline, but given that it just came out and isn’t out in hard copy yet, I know not everyone will have. Prompts with spoilers are in their own marked section at the bottom, so you can avoid them if you haven’t read Borderline yet.
Emergency Response
Emergency response-related fic is my jam, and I’ve really enjoyed the emergency response competency we’ve seen in canon. I’d love to see more of Amber’s unit responding to emergencies! We’ve already seen a blackout. What other emergencies does the Hive prepare for? Are there ever storms outside large enough that they affect the inside of the Hive?
Epidemic fic. We know the fear (and reality) of epidemics was one of the reasons why the Hives were closed to travel. What if an epidemic hits Hive England... and Amber’s Unit has to get to the bottom of it? Could it be sabotage from disaffected Hive researchers, or sabotage from another Hive? How would the Hive and its citizens respond? Or what if the illness hit Amber's unit?
Amber is taking a much-needed reset break over at Hive Futura or at one of the supply stations when something goes wrong. Maybe someone’s gotten in from outside and is stalking them. Maybe there’s a serious snowstorm, the aircraft can’t leave to bring them back, and the systems at Hive Futura are breaking down. Or maybe something else!
Food
I always want more details about food in this world. What are crunch cakes? How do the food units in apartments work? How is Amber’s unit different from a basic Teen Level unit? We get to see a few types of cheese that are specific to a given Zone -- does each Zone keep one particular cheese-making tradition alive?
A story set in one of the units that decides what the Hive will eat! I'd love to see a story involving Margot, from Amber's Teen Level corridor, and what her days are like.
Amber’s unit gets called to respond because there's sabotage/a poisoning/other at some high-level event where chefs are presenting their new food options for the Hive!
Why is apple juice the cheap, available-on-all-levels option? Apples are cheap to grow/process in our world, but in a closed system, I'd think they'd take up a lot of resources and would be tough to grow with hydroponics. There's apple trees in the parks, but not enough to explain the quantity of apple juice on hand. Or do they have some sort of biohacked yeast or whatever generating their apple juice?
Hive Myths and Legends
We’ve seen several urban legends the Hive uses to encourage specific behavior (“Level 99,” the fear of Outside, etc.). What other urban legends does the Hive have, and how might they come into play during a case? Do any of our characters ever have to invent/establish an urban legend while doing their jobs?
Or show the original team that developed the Hive’s Halloween myths, or something like the guidelines for how the Liaison team can use the Hunter of Souls when covering things up.
Do teenagers ever get besotted with the Hunter of Souls as a character and write angsty poetry about being kissed by his demon breath? Like… tell me that doesn’t happen. I bet it totally happens. I’m not sure if any of our characters would have been into him, but I bet they knew a friend who was back on Teen Level. Maybe someone got roped into trying to go Outside with them to find him! What would that be like?

What sorts of unofficial-but-secretly-tolerated teen activities are there? Are there hacker teens who hack easy targets that are set up for them to work on? Are there foodie teens who hack their food units to make better food?

Telepathy and Telepaths
What other sorts of jobs can borderline telepaths take on?
What happens if a telepath stays inside someone’s mind when they die? Has this happened at the Hive before?
Through her work with Amber, Buzz works out a potential method to make borderline telepaths into true telepaths. Would she try it on herself? Tell others?
Amber runs across someone whose mind she can’t read. Given what we know from Hurricane, that certainly suggests they’re hiding being a true telepath. How did they figure out how to hide their talents? Do they have ulterior motives, and can they be convinced to use their gifts for the good of the Hive?

Thanks to the Teen Games, we know the Hive has anonymous dataviews. Do teens ever use them for other things, like posting creepypastas or swapping stories? Or what kinds of urban legends arise from the Teen Games?
Teen Level
Lucas talks a lot in Borderline about defining moments -- times when someone does something or makes a choice, and the memory of that reinforces who they're becoming. We know what Lucas and Forge and Gregas' defining moments were, and we know Amber didn't really have one pre-Lottery. (You'd think it'd be the Blue Zone blackout, but it doesn't seem to have been.) What about some of the other members of Amber's unit? What did Nicole's defining moment look like, or Megan's, or Beckett's, or Gideon's?
What was Teen Level like for Buzz? Was she in one of the Law Enforcement sections? Was it a relief to get away from her parents and her insights into their relationship?
Gregas settling into his new room in the Law Enforcement section of Teen Level! Do the teens in Gregas's new Law Enforcement part of Teen Area have their own weird hobbies that the Hive officially can’t approve of?
Telepathy and Telepaths
So this one is long, but: what if Keith’s actually a borderline telepath? He’s the only telepath like that the Hive has ever seen. And we now know he grew up as Claire’s grandkid, and presumably saw her Unit: luxurious living, her every whim catered to, everyone adoring her… so if he got triggered early as a borderline telepath, I don’t think he’d be happy with just being Level 1. I think he’d want more.
What if Keith somehow managed to figure out how to expand his borderline talents? For the lifestyle, to spite his family — he’s got a lot of motives and he might have had years to work on it, if his talents presented while he’s still a kid. And he wouldn’t tell the Hive a damn thing about it, because every new telepath unit means the Hive needs him less. But it’s got to be torture. In Claire’s unit, everyone loved her. In Keith’s unit, everyone is constantly thinking about how he’s not good enough.
Somehow, the secret gets out. Maybe Keith told one person, and Amber saw it in their head. Maybe Keith kept a journal of his experiments that he hid in one of Claire’s old units, and it’s uncovered during the renovations for the potential new telepath from Hive Genex. Or maybe we handwave over how the secret got out, and pick up when Gregas or Buzz is asked to try to do what Keith did. Or maybe Keith tells Olivia, because he wants her to be a true telepath again — how would Olivia respond to that? Or maybe Keith’s favor is asking Amber to call Olivia and give her this info, without telling anyone else, because Gaius is monitoring his calls, and the workaround they use to call other telepaths will only work inside a telepath unit.
Lock In
Chris Shane, Original Character(s), Any or No Character
I adore the world of Lock In, and I'd love to get some fic exploring the world!
If you include Chris, I like what Scalzi did with keeping Chris' gender undefined, if that's possible. My preference would be keeping things similar to canon, where Chris is written without pronouns at all. I get that it's tricky to do that, though! If you do end up needing to give Chris a pronoun, I would prefer they over he or she. I do not want Chris referred to by "it" or neopronouns.
Emergency Response
How do Hadens prepare for ordinary emergencies? Like snow storms, blackouts, hurricanes, etc.? I'd imagine they're more vulnerable to power cuts -- is that something Chris and his housemates are prepared for? What would living through one of those emergencies look like for a Haden?
Or show me how Hadens are uniquely positioned to respond to certain kinds of emergencies. Would someone like Talla end up working an epidemic in another part of the world, because a doctor in a threep is immune?
Threeps
More tales of Chris destroying threeps! Are there super-heavy-duty threep companies that approach Chris as a test user? How do the tests go wrong? Something like an internal report about all of Chris’s prior threep destruction could also be hilarious.
What can people do in threeps in terms of research, emergency response, hazmat disposal, etc.? Are there niche, Haden-dominated industries where not having a human body with you at work is actually a huge advantage?
Threep epidemic. Maybe a computer virus or network thing leads to a lot of threep behavior unreliability, meaning all threeps have to be shut down. How do Hadens cope with managing their needs? How does Chris' household cope? Are there plans for this sort of situation?
Urban Legends
I love urban legends, and I especially love seeing them in worlds where they get wrapped up into the worldbuilding. We got to see someone die IRL when their threep got killed in Head On. What other urban legends might come true and require Chris and Leslie's attention? (Lock In, but make it X-Files!) Or what urban legends might Chris unwittingly or deliberately inspire?
I love fic in the form of online stories, investigations, etc. What about a forum dedicated to figuring out if [conspiracy theory involving Chris]? Like, is Chris an extra-terrestrial? Are there multiple people controlling Chris’s threeps, because otherwise Chris makes no sense?
What kinds of ghost stories do Hadens tell?
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Xan, Kimmy
I love where the series left them, and I especially loved seeing Xan’s realization that Kimmy was K. C. Schmidt. :D I’d adore seeing future fic about either or both of them. I love both of them individually, and I love the two of them together in a gen way. And I do ship it, so if you want to write them getting together a little later on (maybe after Xan’s graduated from college?), I’m here for that as well. Basically, any combo of Kimmy and/or Xan? Awesome.
This is one of the fandoms where I had a harder idea coming up with prompts. Please know that I don’t want this any less! I love this fandom, and anything you come up with involving Kimmy and/or Xan and these worldbuilding tags would be amazing. ♥

Bunny and Kitty
So first off… what is Bunny and Kitty? Is this a TV show in Kimmy’s universe? Is it someone’s YouTube channel?
Is Xan secretly a fan of Bunny and Kitty?
Maybe Kimmy gets asked to pitch a TV show after Legends of Greemulax gets big, and she pitches a sweet cozy mystery series about Bunny and Kitty solving crimes… only to have the production studio turn into them into the hard-boiled, competitive duo we see in the end tag version of Bunny and Kitty in the show. :D
Legends of Greemulax Fandom
What about a future where Xan’s become an academic, and works with K. C. Schmidt scholars professionally, but can’t bring herself to admit that she knows K. C. Schmidt and has a character in the book based on her? And then maybe she and Kimmy get unexpectedly thrown together at a K. C. Schmidt convention….
Or maybe Xan’s just a regular fanfic author in the Legends of Greemulax fandom. What’s that like? Does she get embroiled in wank? I am betting Xan would get embroiled in wank.
What’s it like for Kimmy, suddenly becoming a JK Rowling-like figure? It’s better than being a Mole Woman, but it’s still got to be an adjustment. Does she handle it badly at first, or does she love it? What’s Kimmy’s wizard toilet Tweet, and how does the world react? Does she ever deliberately troll her fandom?

Or maybe Keith tells Olivia, because he wants her to be a true telepath again — how would Olivia respond to that? Or maybe Keith’s favor is asking Amber to call Olivia and give her this info, without telling anyone else, because Gaius is monitoring his calls, and the workaround they use to call other telepaths will only work inside a telepath unit.
Lock In

I adore the world of Lock In, and I'd love to get some fic exploring the world!
If you include Chris, I like what Scalzi did with keeping Chris' gender undefined, if that's possible. My preference would be keeping things similar to canon, where Chris is written without pronouns at all. I get that it's tricky to do that, though! If you do end up needing to give Chris a pronoun, I would prefer they over he or she. I do not want Chris referred to by "it" or neopronouns.
Emergency Response
How do Hadens prepare for ordinary emergencies? Like snow storms, blackouts, hurricanes, etc.? I'd imagine they're more vulnerable to power cuts -- is that something Chris and his housemates are prepared for? What would living through one of those emergencies look like for a Haden?
Or show me how Hadens are uniquely positioned to respond to certain kinds of emergencies. Would someone like Talla end up working an epidemic in another part of the world, because a doctor in a threep is immune?
Threeps
More tales of Chris destroying threeps! Are there super-heavy-duty threep companies that approach Chris as a test user? How do the tests go wrong? Something like an internal report about all of Chris’s prior threep destruction could also be hilarious.
What can people do in threeps in terms of research, emergency response, hazmat disposal, etc.? Are there niche, Haden-dominated industries where not having a human body with you at work is actually a huge advantage?
Threep epidemic. Maybe a computer virus or network thing leads to a lot of threep behavior unreliability, meaning all threeps have to be shut down. How do Hadens cope with managing their needs? How does Chris' household cope? Are there plans for this sort of situation?
Urban Legends
I love urban legends, and I especially love seeing them in worlds where they get wrapped up into the worldbuilding. We got to see someone die IRL when their threep got killed in Head On. What other urban legends might come true and require Chris and Leslie's attention? (Lock In, but make it X-Files!) Or what urban legends might Chris unwittingly or deliberately inspire?
I love fic in the form of online stories, investigations, etc. What about a forum dedicated to figuring out if [conspiracy theory involving Chris]? Like, is Chris an extra-terrestrial? Are there multiple people controlling Chris’s threeps, because otherwise Chris makes no sense?

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Xan, Kimmy
I love where the series left them, and I especially loved seeing Xan’s realization that Kimmy was K. C. Schmidt. :D I’d adore seeing future fic about either or both of them. I love both of them individually, and I love the two of them together in a gen way. And I do ship it, so if you want to write them getting together a little later on (maybe after Xan’s graduated from college?), I’m here for that as well. Basically, any combo of Kimmy and/or Xan? Awesome.
This is one of the fandoms where I had a harder idea coming up with prompts. Please know that I don’t want this any less! I love this fandom, and anything you come up with involving Kimmy and/or Xan and these worldbuilding tags would be amazing. ♥

So first off… what is Bunny and Kitty? Is this a TV show in Kimmy’s universe? Is it someone’s YouTube channel?

Maybe Kimmy gets asked to pitch a TV show after Legends of Greemulax gets big, and she pitches a sweet cozy mystery series about Bunny and Kitty solving crimes… only to have the production studio turn into them into the hard-boiled, competitive duo we see in the end tag version of Bunny and Kitty in the show. :D

What about a future where Xan’s become an academic, and works with K. C. Schmidt scholars professionally, but can’t bring herself to admit that she knows K. C. Schmidt and has a character in the book based on her? And then maybe she and Kimmy get unexpectedly thrown together at a K. C. Schmidt convention….
Or maybe Xan’s just a regular fanfic author in the Legends of Greemulax fandom. What’s that like? Does she get embroiled in wank? I am betting Xan would get embroiled in wank.
What’s it like for Kimmy, suddenly becoming a JK Rowling-like figure? It’s better than being a Mole Woman, but it’s still got to be an adjustment. Does she handle it badly at first, or does she love it? What’s Kimmy’s wizard toilet Tweet, and how does the world react? Does she ever deliberately troll her fandom?
